Talavera is any handmade pottery born of the Spanish pottery tradition called Majolica, introduced in the 16th Century by Spanish artisans. As the Mexican craftsmen were already accomplished potters, they incorporated the majolica process, developing the Mexican Talavera that has come to be greatly admired and is now known worldwide as a signature of high quality Mexican craftsmanship.
