Highlighting Tiles - Talavera Vases and Planters

Talavera is any handmade pottery born from the Spanish pottery tradition called Majolica, introduced in the 16th Century by Spanish artisans. As the Mexican craftsmen were already accomplished potters, they incorporated the majolica process, developing the Mexican Talavera that has come to be greatly admired and is now known worldwide as high quality craftsman work of Mexico. As you walk through the streets of Dolores Hidalgo, you have to remember that on September 15, 1810, the town's priest, Miguel Hidalgo, gathered his passionate supporters and yelled the cry of independence "El grito!" Miguel’s call to action altered North America’s history forever. Two centuries later, Dolores Hidalgo’s cobblestoned streets are now lined with small shops and stalls and women selling baskets of fresh limes and ripe avocados. The production of Talavera remains a strong industry here and you can see Talavera vases adorning stairwells and decorating pathways, each hand painted and many are filled with fresh flowers and green plants. Dolores Hidalgo remains a significant producer of traditional Mexican Talavera pottery and prides itself on contributing to the 400 year old tradition. Here we present talavera vases but do also look at our selection in 'Fine Arts'.
